Stamped Future

I bought from the antiquarian
The Portrait of Dorian Gray
with rancid leaves like stamps
in an ancient collection

I ran home scampering
it was smelling like jasmines
at the corners
on the labyrinth streets
hidden in the big city
in my dress flounces

after the first chapter it started to rain
I was reading the ragged book
under the lamp shade
with dead butterflies
nibbling like a mouse
memories from the future

a gray cat in a window
was looking beyond curtains
my thoughts
like snails with sinusitis
crawling on the moist asphalt
without hearing a thing

sometimes the world is
a mirror
with shriveled silver

Pink Cameo

a bird is resting beyond the road
it’s snowing for centuries over her wings
bird’s claws are piercing the ground
new scales begin to grow thicker
I’m afraid to look in the mirror
there’s no one left to tell my troubles to

some walls are like storm clouds
blue crevices come out of the blues
a spider sleeps inside an old mandolin
all drawers are crackling from inside
the candlestick got stuck in wax
the everlastings shed their petals

my stomach burns from thirst and cold
I’m wrapping around me a checkered blanket
hunting sunlight specks with my plastic horse
sipping my pink tea under dawn eyes
when cherry blossoms cover every legend
I’m galloping like the knight in a tiger’s skin

in the room nearby
palm tree leaves are strewn on the floor
covered with antiquarian dust
beyond the road it smells like jasmines
dreams always take a longer breath

The Dreams Laundry

one day I found a doll in the garden
hidden amid lilac bushes
maybe someone wanted to bury a dream
I bathed it and dressed it clean
she was looking towards me cross-eyed
a shard of clear sky shining in her blue eyes

in my new house there were no more dolls
I wanted to kill all forgotten dreams one by one
I threw away my good luck charms
I burnt my first poetry notebook
I gave away my summer hats
I lost my silver jewelry box

now I see myself in a cloudy mirror
there are shadows like wounds
between the eyes’ and the lips’ corners
it is not certain if I smile or cry

I shall clean the glass with peroxide
and surgical gloves
then I shall let the window wide open
because more light is the best disinfectant

The Wind Has a Bitter Cherry Taste

the house painter tossed by mistake
his bucket full of paint
over my bedroom’s mirrors

a white night stretches from my window
to the neighboring motel
my body is like a young comet
imprisoned between shadows and half-shadows
carrying dark stripes afar

I touch the mirrors with my fingertips
feeling them gliding
in an out of tune violin dance
in their hunger for genuine shadows
like blue Medusa eyes

each moment there are many others alike
I can’t retrieve myself entire
swirling on my heels for quite some time
my eyes are running away
like two wheels dropping from their axle
my lips are taking a heart’s shape
with fluttering beats
my blood is leaving a trace of vapor
on the opaque glass

now I’m silent
I open the window without prints
towards the walls outside
letting a drought wind
flood over

Alternate Pictures

clear sky at noon
too much light around
unequal beats from dawn and sunset
towards North

in the compartment a stiff suitcase
pushed in a corner like a safety belt
her wristwatch shining every five minutes
the windowsill pressing her temple
unspoken thoughts floating

raising her head
a murky sky was oozing inside
deepening horizons
her eyes were avoiding themselves
sparkling reflections on the glass
more and more pale flocks of birds
clock needles in her pupils
entering the tunnel at dusk

standing
she looks in the mirror
maybe unwillingly
light drips like lukewarm tea
melting slowly and softly
her eyelashes are disjointed flights
losing their direction
other eyes break others’ eyes shell
new street lamps light in the same station
